Summary:The goal that unites the organisations – members of the Coalition, is to achieve a guarantee that deinstitutionalisation will continue to develop sustainably, regardless of political changes, with the main priority – the development of individual care in the community for each child involved in the process.
Deinstitutionalisation (DI) is understood as a comprehensive transformation of the relationships in the child care system – from institutional and oriented towards group care for problematic people – to oriented towards respecting the individual child and his/her family. Therefore, DI is both a process of closing homes that have proven dramatically detrimental to children's development and creating a network of services for all children and families in the community.
Purpose:Representatives of 18 civil society organisations working on the issues of deinstitutionalisation in Bulgaria since its inception want to urge the members of the next government and parliament to act in the best interests of Bulgarian children and to keep the issue of closing the existing institutions and creating the opportunity for all children to grow up in a family or close to family environment as their priorities.
