When Boryana became pregnant 4 years ago, it never crossed her mind that her life would turn 180 degrees around and that the long-awaited Nasko would need her 24-hour support and full attention. Not just to thrive – but to survive.
Nasko was born with a severe genetic disorder – he cannot breathe on his own, he does not speak, his development is very delayed, he is fragile and he gets often sick. Despite the diagnosis, which dooms both of them to be dependent on each other, Boryana does not give up on her child, and so together with Nasko they struggle daily with the various tribulations that the insidious disease confronts them with.
Boryana transforms her home into a hospital ward that glows with cleanliness and is tailor-made for the special needs of the little one. Despite the mother's tremendous efforts, Nasko falls ill frequently, ending up in hospital where they sometimes have to spend a whole month.
In the beginning, Boryana manages to take care of the little one, she also gets help from the father, but soon after the birth the couple separates and Boryana has to carry the heavy illness on her own. Then she turns for support to our specialists from the Community Support Centre "For Children and Parents" in the town of Boryana. Nasko is provided with weekly home visits by a kinesiotherapist who actively works to ensure that the little one begins to take his first steps. Almost two years later, the mother and the specialists are happy to share the progress of the child who is finally moving freely with the help of a walker.
I dream that my angel will start breathing on his own and one day walk confidently, says Boryana to our team.
To make her dream come true, Boryana applied for the "Lend a Hand" project and won the financial support of ProCredit Bank. Thanks to this and the additional discount made by the radiant employees of the medical equipment store Adapt BG, today Nasko already has the much-needed walker and is ready, with the assistance of the specialists from the Centre, to learn to walk.
